Witton Albion 0 Trafford 5

TRAFFORD produced a superb performance to demolish Witton Albion 5-0 at Wincham Park on Saturday.

The visitors made the ideal start with Andy Smart firing them ahead after just six minutes when his viciously in-swinging free kick from the right eluded everyone and floated into the bottom corner.

Liam Blake and Mike Lee saw long range efforts fly just wide as Witton sought the equaliser but in the 26th minute Trafford’s lead was doubled when Smart laid a corner into the path of Shelton Payne who shot first time past Sam Ramsbottom from 15 yards.

And two minutes later the game was as good as over when Payne released Michael Oates with a delightful pass through the centre, Albion full back pushed Oates to the ground and was immediately and quite rightly red carded. Payne coolly planted the resultant penalty inside the left hand post to make it 3-0.

As half time approached Trafford became a little casual and sloppy in their approach and goalkeeper Andy Robertson pushed a Josh Hancock drive past the post before Michael Powell and Danny Andrews both miskicked in front of goal.

Shelton Payne volleyed just wide from 20 yards in the early stages of the second half before Robertson saved once more from Hancock.

Witton’s ten men were playing with plenty of spirit and after Danny Andrews fired wide, Liam Blake wasted a great chance when he drove over from close range.

However, Trafford reasserted their authority and after Martyn Andrews had skimmed the crossbar in the 71st minute, Michael Oates made it 4-0 nine minutes later when he rounded off a lightning fast counter attack with a thunderous drive into the roof of the net.

Two minutes into injury time Oates was further rewarded for his unstinting efforts when he tapped in at the back post following another slick move by the visitors.
