ONE of Trafford’s largest community football club is chasing its fourth consecutive promotion after receiving sponsorship from a logistics company.

Urmston Town FC is being backed in its latest Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League campaign by AKW Group, based on Trafford Park.

The club runs teams across all age groups from Under 6s to the Division Two open age side and has one of the largest player memberships in Trafford and the surrounding areas with more than 400 players registered with the club.

Tony Worthington, chairman and founder of AKW Group, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Urmston Town – especially as so many local people are involved with the club and we wish them all the best in what could be another promotion bid this season.”

The firm, which employs more than 300 people from its Trafford Park premises and provides extensive transport, warehouse, contract packaging and international freight, will provide funding towards new training equipment and kits for the 2014-15 season.

Daniel Watling, traffic planner at AKW group and striker for Urmston Town, said: “It’s great for the club to have the backing of AKW, which means the players can now concentrate on the season ahead.

“The team has been in training since late May in a push for extra fitness and if we can start like we finished last season there is no reason why we won’t be pushing for promotion and the top spot come the end of the season.”
