SALE sprinter Andrew Robertson insists he is still looking to forward to returning to Scotland despite failing to impress at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix.

Robertson was treated to a sneak peak of what is around the corner as he took to a transformed Hampden Park, the athletics venue for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

But it was far from the dry run he had hoped for as he finished seventh in the 100m B race in 10.46 seconds before returning 24 hours later with a British ‘B’ 4x100m team that failed to finish.

However Robertson is determined not to let lightning strike twice when he returns to Scotland, looking to help England to success in the 4x100m relay.

“That didn’t go well at all,” said Robertson, who hopes to compete throughout the Summer Series – events backed by long-term supporter Sainsbury’s.

“I had no power, literally nothing, I just saw rest of the field going away from me and I had no answer, I don’t know what happened.

“I have been struggling with a stress fracture all winter so there is a bit of catching up with that but I have to clear my head and move on.

“I have the Commonwealth Games coming up which will be good but just at the moment it is just not quite there.

“The Commonwealth Games will be the biggest competition of my career so hopefully I can run in the relay but if not I will be supporting the team through to the end.”

Also in action at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix at Hampden Park was Sale clubmate Chris Baker, who finished the high jump seventh with a best clearance of 2.22m.

Kelly Massey was eighth in the 400m but there was better news for sprinter Louise Bloor who, despite finishing the 100m B race eighth herself, helped Britain B to a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay.

“The competition was a pretty solid one for me really and it has really got me excited for the Commonwealth Games,” Bloor said.

“I would have liked to have run faster but just being there and seeing the top-class athletes was great and I can’t wait to return for the Commonwealth Games.”
