Ashton-on-Mersey CC – 1st XI – 127-7 beat Chester County Officers CC – 1st XI – 126-8 ASHTON on Mersey overcame the weather and a below par performance to record an important win at Chester.

On a rain soaked day the match was reduced to 30 overs. Bowling first Ashton saw numerous chances go begging as Chester battled well on a pitch offering some help to the bowlers.

Ashton got some control through spinners Chris Wardle (3-32) and Mike Roberts (3-56). With skipper Chris Wright top scoring with 39 Chester finished on a respectable 126.

In reply the visitors slumped to 45-5 in reply before fighting knocks from Paul Eastham and Ashton skipper Mark Duncan took the game away from Chester.

Eastham (50) was out with just a handful of runs needed but Duncan (50 not out) saw Ashton through to a hard fought win.
