THE girls of Bollin Primary School have clinched the Trafford Schools’ Cup in the inaugural version of the tournament.

Premier League referee Anthony Taylor, from Altrincham, was on hand to award the trophy to the winners after they came through a gruelling seven game group stage and finally defeated St Hugh’s girls’ side thanks to a sudden death ‘golden goal’.

A special assembly was hosted to celebrate the girls’ proud achievement of seeing off the challenge from 16 other Trafford schools at the largest tournament of its kind in the area.

Mr Taylor said: “It’s fantastic for the school to recognise the success of the girls and it should inspire other pupils to be the best they can be.

“The children, staff and families ought to be very proud of their achievements.”

Nick Liddell, who helped organise the tournament as well as being involved in coaching the winning team, was delighted with the success of the event.

“It was brilliant to see so many girls loving football and there were some real stars of the future playing,” he said.

“I was very proud of the belief our girls showed and am looking forward to running this tournament again very soon.”
