BOWDON scored 12 tries at Clay Lane as they continued to push for promotion from South Lancs and Cheshire Division 2. Playing against the wind in the first half, four converted tries saw Bowdon secure the bonus point before the referee blew for half time. From the kick-off Bowdon showed their intent on winning and keeping the visitors away from their try line. The first points were scored after several rucks around the Dukinfield five metre line. This drew players in allowing hooker Harry Booth to dive over the line to score. Bowdon’s second try came with only 15 minutes on the board.

A quick free kick exploited the middle of the visitors defence, strong play from the forwards and quick passing allowed Thiu Barnard to stroll through between the posts. Further tries from Darius Miksys and Michael Swetman, along with four conversions from Swetman, brought the half time score to 28 : nil.

The second half saw Bowdon decide to move the ball quickly at every opportunity.

This saw Bowdon increase the intensity and exploit gaps in the defence of the visitors. This paid dividends for the home side with several second half tries coming from quick thinking Bowdon players taking advantage of speedy ball. All of Bowdon players were playing well, both forwards and backs linking up to give a complete team performance. The second half tries were scored by Mark Wells, Phil Gare (2), Michael Swetman, Darius Miksys, Thiu Barnard, Tom Shaw and finally Harry Booth. The scoring was completed with three further conversions from Swetman. The pick of the second half tries saw Bowdon attack down the left hand wing. Great close play from both forwards and backs saw Swetman flick the ball behind himself to Paul Mosely who flashed the ball to Barnard allowing him to cross the line unopposed wide on the left. The final score Bowdon 74 : 0 Dukinfield Although still in fourth place in the league there are only four points separating the top four teams. Bowdon have a game in hand over some of their rivals and with games against two of their rivals mean that promotion and a league win are still possible. The second team continued on their winning ways - with an away win at Wilmslow 24 : 43 to remain in first place in their league.

Next week sees Bowdon in the semi-final of the Cheshire Bowl with a home game against Port Sunlight.
