MV travelled to top of the table De la Salle for a re-run of the close game earlier in the season at MacPherson park. They dominated a sluggish De la Salle in the opening salvos of the game. A catch and drive was pulled to ground, MV recycled creating space for Crampton to feed Gregg who put winger Kingdon over the whitewash in the corner AND MV led by 5-0.

Anywhere in the opposition half is kicking range for the De La number 10 and Wheeler was the benefactor, making the score 3-5.

This was exactly what the home side needed to pick their spirits up, and soon they found their number 9 on the opposite side of the field with an overlap, and he powered over the line to take the home side 8-5 in the lead.

MV certainly weren't out of the game but it was again De La Salle who were next on the score sheet, Wheeler again the recipient of a shot at goal, which he accepted gratefully. Eccles replied for MV, but the half time score read 11-8.

Tensions had begun to boil over during the first half, and it was clear that marshalling the game had become difficult. MV felt aggrived at a number of decisions and 2 more penalties put the home side 17-8 in front.
