STRUGGLING Mossley Hill from Merseyside were the visitors to MV's MacPherson Park and as always MV's pitched were playable.

MV started strongly and the first quarter saw MV driving deep into the visitors half and the defence being relieved with wind assisted clearance kicks. The home side were looking good when a loose off load was snapped up for a visiting back to intercept and stride a good 50 yards to score under the posts, an easy conversion made it 0-7 to Mossley Hill. The home side stuck to their game plan and good set piece ball gave plenty of opportunity to attack. It was powerful prop Paul Davenport that brought MV back into the game after a series of drives he was there to punch his way through the faltering defence to crash over the line. Kicking into the wind was difficult and skipper Pat Eccles saw his conversion drift wide 5-7 .

Pat Eccles scored twice with snipes around the fringes but this was a game definitely influenced by the forwards, gritty effort and hard work brought reward for hooker Marcus Birmingham and substitute flanker Andy Quigley. Eccles was now assisted in his kicking by the wind and converted all the second half scores.

This weekend MV are away at bottom of the league Hutton and Sale based MV are looking to keep pressure on second placed Heaton Moor. MV's 2nd XV are at home to Oldham - kick off 2.15pm. Spectators are welcome free of charge.
