Urmston Tennis Club celebrates 110 years with funding for improved facilities
4:10pm Monday 3rd February 2014 in Sport
THE amazing progress of Urmston Tennis Club continues.
The Moorside Road club has gone from strength to strength since it almost closed six years ago.
It now has 120 members, with three men’s and two women’s teams plus a vibrant junior section.
The latest development in the rebirth of the club has come with a grant of £10,000 from Trafford Housing Trust’s Urmston community panel, which will fund the first phase of a facility development plan at the club, including improving courts and fencing.
The tennis section of the club was founded in 1904 and so celebrates 110 years of tennis in the heart of Urmston this year.
It is hoped that this grant will be supplemented by further investments and combined they will transform the club’s facilities.
Club chairman, Chris Ryan, said: “This is a fantastic amount of money and sets us well on the way to improving our playing facilities.
“We are constantly looking forward as a club and improving our courts will set us on the way to further success with our teams and junior coaching and will attract new members to come and join us.”
