CZECH forward Robin Kovar netted a treble on Sunday night to lead Manchester Phoenix past Swindon in the first home game of 2014.

Phoenix, who came into the game having lost two away games on the bounce at Milton Keynes (7-2) and Basingstoke on Saturday (5-2), came from behind against the Wildcats to take the points.

Kovar netted his first and games opening goal on the powerplay but a lack of concentration cost Tony Hand’s side the lead as the Cats netted back to back goals to lead after the opening period 2-1.

It took until the half way point of the game for Phoenix to draw level with the prolific Michal Psurny finding a way past Cats netminder Stevie Lyle.

Two further goals in the next 71 seconds decided the game as Richard Bentham scored a highlight go ahead goal with a back post finish from a Liam Chong pass before Kovar fired in the homesides fourth of the night.

Swindon did reduce the gap with a fine goal from Aaron Nell but further strikes from Psurny and Kovar, his hat trick goal, sealed the points for Phoenix.

After the win Phoenix lie in third place in the table, but have games in hand over both Guildford and Basingstoke above them.
