A SALE man has stormed his way to success in the Inas World Table Tennis Championships, which is held for para-athletes with an intellectual disabilities and was last month held in Hong Kong.
Adam Thompson, 25, battled stiff competition in the class 11 singles keeping GB’s medal hopes alive by beating Hong Kong’s Ming Fai Tsoi in the quarter finals to guarantee a podium appearance.
In the doubles, Adam and his partner Patrick Cox, 19, were beaten into fourth place by the Hong Kong team, despite a commendable victory against number three-seeded Russia.
Tracey McCillen, chief executive of the UK Sports Association (UKSA), said “Adam and Patrick are both determined athletes. UKSA is proud of their achievements at the championships and delighted that we end the year on such a high.”
Adam trains at South Cheshire Special Needs Table Tennis Club, at Sir William Stanier Leisure Centre, in Crewe.
