BURNLEY came to MacPherson park looking for an upset to take advantage of MV's recent patchy form. What is becoming a regular bad habit for MV, A slow start, gave Burnley just the opening to the game they wanted. A poor clearance from MV allowed the visitors to attack down the right flank and score in the corner to give MV a wake up call. The conversion was missed to put MV at an early 0-5 deficit.

MV used every opportunity to run the ball and a dogged Burnley worked hard in defence however an energetic pack performed well to allow the half back pairing of Pat Eccles and Stuart Crampton to run the show. A prolonged period of MV support play pressed Burnley back on their line and eventually Crampton spotted the gap to cross the try line to the right of the up rights, Eccles converted easily for a 7-5 lead.

With Eccles again kicking the extras MV moved into a 14-5 half-time lead but the way they were playing and the wind behind them in the 2nd half it looked as if a good score could be achieved.

MV continued to battle on and in the final seconds of the it was MV stalwart John Kevan that ended a series of forward drives by crashing over the line from short range again under the posts. With Eccles erratic kicking over recent weeks it was fortunate that his team mates scored all three tries close to the posts to make all three conversions a simple formality.
