Altrincham Football Club appealing for help to fund new community sports hall
12:00pm Friday 18th October 2013 in Sport
ALTRINCHAM Football Club are appealing to the community to help them raise the £750,000 needed to build a community sports hall that will benefit the whole town.
The Conference North club was granted planning permission for the project a few weeks ago after overwhelming support from councillors and residents alike to make the town’s London 2012 Olympic legacy a reality.
The hall will host after-school clubs, disabled groups, ballroom dancing and other sports like yoga, martial arts, indoor bowls and badminton.
But while the Robins – who announced the plans in May – are applying to the Premier League and other organisations for funding, they also want Altrincham fans and residents to play their part by sponsoring the hall and are hoping to raise around £200,000 this way.
Chairman Grahame Rowley said: “We want to provide a facility that benefits the whole town and gets people of all ages active and involved in sport, not just football.
“The hall will provide a real community hub, but to make it happen we need local people and businesses to help.
“We have a great facility here and we want it to serve the community, not just on match day.
“We have some fantastic sponsorship opportunities and events planned, so please get involved.”
Opportunities available to fans and organisations include being recognised as a ‘Giantkiller’ on the glass honours board if more £1,000 is donated to the cause. Alternatively, companies and organisations can donate £250 towards the project and have their logo displayed on the ‘Band of Community Businesses’ in the hall.
The smallest donation that can be made is £50 and lets the benefactor be recognised as a community supporter on the club’s glass honours board.

To aid their fundraising efforts for the community hall, the football club will be holding a charity disco on October 25 in the Noel White Suite, with a dance and sing-along to 60s, 70s and 80s hits.
Admission is £7 with a hotpot supper, and for more information contact Jenny or Karen on 0161 928 1045.
