Ice Hockey - Manchester Phoenix 11-0 Peterborough Phantoms
FRANTISEK Bakrlik netted four goals and two assists in a man of the match performance as Manchester Phoenix routed Peterborough 11-0 on Sunday.
Phoenix, who have now won six out of six to start the new season, dominated from the puck drop against an average Peterborough side who looked shell-shocked throughout.
Brit forward Liam Chong opened the scoring for the home side midway through the opening period, Jack Watkins added a neat second shortly after and Bakrlik netted his first on the breakaway after stepping out of the penalty box for a 3-0 first interval lead.
Second period strikes from Bakrlik (2), Michal Psurny and James Archer saw Phoenix 7-0 up and cruising whilst Andy McKinney dropped the gloves with a willing Phantoms’ Greg Pick trying to motivate his dazed team mates.
The final period saw Phoenix rub salt in the wounds with four further strikes, Bakrlik added his fourth, whilst Chong and Psurny added their second strikes before Robin Kovar added his name to the score sheet.
Man of the Match Bakrlik said: “It is not about who scores as long as the team takes the points. We played well this weekend but it is only September and there is a long way to go. I am glad the fans are happy, we want to keep on winning for them.”
Phoenix will look to continue their red hot start to the season this weekend with an away fixture against Milton Keynes Lightning on Saturday and the Slough Jets visit Altrincham on Sunday.
