10:24am Monday 2nd September 2013 in Sport
TRAFFORD MV took to the road on Saturday and came home with deserved points needed to secure relegation safety.
In cool, breezy conditions MV went to Alderley Park and on winning the toss MV skipper Steve Haughton asked the home side to open the batting.
After getting off to a good start with 33 on the board for the first wicket, Rashid Parvez made the breakthrough that MV needed with the removal of both openers.
Tight bowling from Hamza Butt kept one end tied up while Rashid Parvez (3-29) and Mo Saqib (4-39) picked up wickets at the other end bowling out Alderley Park for 113.
With an achievable target in sight MV were looking to a strong start. However, as has been the case in recent weeks, wickets fell early.
MV lost Ttwo wickets with only 15 runs to their credit and early alarm bells were ringing.
Dave Lancaster added to his good season by picking up 26 runs while Fakhi Ahmed added 23 to steady MV's ship.
MV then put bat to ball and Tahir Mahmood 21 n o and Mo Saqib 29 n.o gave MV a good six wicket win and a vital 20 points.
This win gives MV vital points which ought to be enough to preserve them from relegation.
This has been a season of re-establishment for MV having lost several key players over recent seasons MV have had to cope with new players bedding themselves in.
Confidence is high that next season will see a stronger MV challenge with players keen to push onwards and upwards.
