New name for the Trafford Metros
10:46am Monday 26th August 2013 in Sport
THE NIHL will re-structure into two conferences this coming season - and the Trafford Metros will have a new name.
The Metros will ice in the Moralee Conference as the Manchester Minotaurs after discussions with the new management and coaching team and current and potential sponsors.
The name change will link more closely with the juniors and the EPL team. The team have fully supported and endorsed this change and have been wholeheartedly engaged in the rebranding, the new name and new logos that will appear on the team shirts.
The club have been successful in the summer, attracting new sponsors and a number of last season’s team have returned.
The returnees include Jake Nurse, Max Drakeley and John Murray. Former Metros favourite Brian Worrall has also returned and the Minotaurs have secured the services of Czech forward Lukas Zeman.
New coach Kevin Cassidy is hoping that the team can improve on a disappointing 2012/13.
It had been suggested that the team may change its name to the Manchester Metros, but this name is already in use by the university team. This being so, the players voted for the name Minotaurs, in keeping with the mythological theme developed by the Phoenix.
