Ashton-on-Mersey CC – 1st XI – 100-3 beat Chester County Officers CC – 1st XI – 99 all out

ASHTON on Mersey stormed to an emphatic win as their young bowling attack took apart Chester County officers.
Choosing to bat first on a rain threatened day, Chester never came to terms with the Ashton seam bowlers.
Sarthak Patkar was on stunning form as he reduced the home side to 29-4.
Only Roger Watt showed the capability to withstand the onslaught, and when he was unluckily run out for a gutsy 51, Ashton kept the pressure on through teenage seamers Josh Knowles and Luke Turner.
Knowles bowled with great control and intelligence and with Turner’s pace whetting the appetite for what he might deliver in the coming years, Chester were bowled out for 99 (Patkar 4-41, Knowles 2- 15, Crampton 2-23).
In a-rain interrupted reply, Ashton lost their big batting guns early to find themselves 50-3.
But Alex Turner and Mike Roberts saw the visitors home with an unbeaten 50 partnership to record a seven wicket win (Turner 49 not out).
The win keeps Ashton’s outside chance of promotion still a possibility and they will be looking to continue their excellent season at home to Hale Barns on Saturday.
Ashton’s 2nd XI had a rain-ruined game at the beets against Ashley. Ashlet posted 145-9 off 39 overs (James Semple 56, Lee heap 5-37) before the rain forced the match to be abandoned.
