ALTRINCHAM synchronised ice skating teams are ‘chuffed to bits’ with their performances in an international competition.

On March 15, the club travelled to Dumfries, Scotland, to compete against teams from Germany, Holland and South Africa and be marked by a World Championship standard judging panel.

The Whizz Kids team, which is made up of five to 11-year-olds, competed in the juvenile category for the first time, taking fourth place and winning a trophy for most entertaining performance of the event.

Club coach, Sam Ozard, said: “They gained a massive five points since their last competition which is so impressive as those points are hard to get. I’m so proud of them.”

In the preliminary class, the Silver Blades team, the youngest member of which is 13 and the oldest is 19, came third out of seven and the Blade Runners came fifth out of eight in the adult category.

Sam now hopes the teams can build on their success for the Wales and West Club International event in April and the Welsh Championships in May.
