Colwyn Bay 1 Altrincham 3
12:44pm Monday 18th March 2013 in Sport
ALTRINCHAM made it four successive wins with this deserved win at Colwyn Bay on Saturday.
But they could have fallen behind inside 30 seconds when Stuart Coburn had to parry a shot and Danny Hall completed the clearance.
Altrincham soon settled, however, and after a period of attacking pressure they took a 22nd minute lead.
The goal arrived after Bay failed to clear a shot and Danny Hall played the loose ball inside to Damian Reeves, who converted the chance from close range.
Bay rallied just before the interval and struck the bar with a well taken freekick by Ellison.
Altrincham seemed to have sealed the game in the 54th minute when Reeves netted the 100th goal of his Altrincham career when Clee got the ball to him after good work on the right by Watmore. It was also Reeves's 32nd league goal of this season.
But Bay responded immediately when substitute Jason Lampkin scored with his first touch after coming off the bench. He threaded a low shot through a crowd in the box past an unsighted Coburn and into the net.
It was Duncan Watmore who settled the match after 80 minutes when he latched onto a freekick awarded when he himself had been tripped. He gathered the ball well and drove it home confidently.
With seven minutes of the 90 remaining, Bay player manager Frank Sinclair was sent off for the third time this season, for elbowing Damian Reeves.
With Gainsborough, Brackley and Halifax all drawing, this hard-earned win helped the Robins' quest to cement a place in the promotion play-offs.
Alty, lying fifth, travel to second-place Guiseley this Tuesday and on Saturday entertain Worcester City at Moss Lane.
ALTRINCHAM Coburn, Densmore (capt), Havern, Hall, Leather, Lawrie, Boshell, Richman, Clee, Watmore and Reeves. Subs: Bullen, Doughty, Rodgers, Brooke and Moult.
