Vale of Lune 23 Sale F.C. 23

IN a close encounter at Lancaster, Sale were behind at half time, gained a lead early in the second half - but had to settle for a draw by the end of the game despite out scoring Vale by three tries to one.

Both sides started this match playing an expansive game, although neither side could create a try-scoring opportunity in the first half. Sale kicked two penalties but missed three others and Vale responded with four successful kicks to give the hosts a 12-6 lead at the break.

In the second half Sale piled on the pressure and a fine run by Perry Alexander secured a converted try under the posts for a 13-12 lead.

Vale of Lune went ahead once more with a fifth penalty from James Moore but Sale regained the advantage with a Mike Swetman try midway through the half.

Kevin Penny extended Sale’s lead to eight points with their third try, but again Moore reduced the arrears to just five points with his sixth kick. In the final minutes the hosts scored their first try with three minutes remaining but could not add the conversion and the match was drawn.
