Trafford celebrates International Women's Day

TRAFFORD Council has teamed up with the borough's community leisure trust, Stretford Community Panel and the Body Shop, to host a sport-themed evening to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8).

Women of all ages are being encouraged to pop along to Stretford Sports Village, Great Stone Road, Stretford between 5pm and 8pm.

There will be free goody bags and light refreshments, information and advice, a free crèche for pre-schoolers and free coach-led sports and exercise sessions.

The sports village fitness suite will be open from 5pm to 8pm. All women will have a free induction and then be able to try out the equipment available. There’s also the chance to win a six month family leisure centre membership and personal programming session, just one more reason not to miss this event.

Executive councillor Jonathan Coupe said: “Trafford Council and its partners are committed to promoting and championing equality and was delighted to mark this year’s International Women’s Day in such a positive, fun way.

“I would encourage as many local women as possible to pop along to the sports village. Whether they harbour a desire to return to an individual or team sport they loved at school, or try something completely new, this event will enable them to do this and have fun at the same time.”

The evening’s timetable is as follows: 5.30pm-6.15pm Netball 6.15pm-7pm Badminton 7pm-7.45pm Hockey 7.15pm-7.45pm Basketball 7.15pm-7.45pm Running, Nordic walking, cricket (all the above activities will take place at the Talbot Centre, in the grounds of Stretford High School) 6pm-6.30pm Spinning 7pm-8pm Swimming (these activities will take place at SSV Chester Centre – formerly Stretford Leisure Centre).
