Louis Taylor breaks away for AK
AK 1st team travelled to Widnes but suffered another narrow defeat and had only a bonus point to show for their efforts.
AK started strongly and opened the scoring through a James Nettleton penalty. Widnes, though, caught the AK defence napping when they hit back with two quick tries to lead 10 – 6.
However James Nettleton reduced the arrears to 10 – 6, with another penalty on half time.
Widnes increased their lead in the second half with two well taken penalties. However, despite losing two forwards to injury, AK finished the game strongly with another penalty from Nettleton and a well worked try from James Singleton. Unfortunately the conversion attempt was narrowly wide and Widnes held on for a 16 – 14 win.
The AK 2nd team had a good 15 – 13 win over local rivals Lymm. Tries were scored by Mitch McGrath (2) and Rob Heseltine.
On Sunday the AK Under 16s beat Manchester 14 – 5. Tries were scored by Alex Fry and Adam Welton, who also kicked two conversions.
Next Saturday AK are at home to Leigh kick off 2.15pm at Stelfox Ave, which will be followed by England v France on the big screen in the clubhouse.
