DUNHAM Forest Golf Club’s long-serving and widely respected professional Ian Wrigley is very proud of the newly refurbished shop at the course where he has spent some 38 years caring for the needs of members and visitors.

Ian began his golf at Blackley, then North Manchester, golf clubs before joining the pro ranks where he began as professional at Vale do Lobo GC in the Algarve.

He spent a year there before returning to work as the assistant pro at Dunham before his appointment to his current role in 1983.

Ian said: “It has been a long-time ambition to open up the shop area to provide the additional space for merchandise and equipment along with a view of our superb course.”

The draw has been made for the MDLGA Bell Cup 2013.

This is the biggest ladies team knock out of its kind in the country with nearly 90 clubs taking part this year.

The competition features the top seven lady players in each club locked in the exciting singles match-play format.

The teams will be aiming to reach final day at Greenmount GC, the home club of MDLGA President Margery Gardiner on September 6 which will feature the last four clubs.

The holders Sandiway GC have a bye into round one where they entertain Warrington, the 2011 winners in what will be a top contest.

The competition will again be organised by Jackie Foy of Davyhulme Park who anticipates some terrific matches with the usual array of giant-killing feats.

Local teams have featured strongly in the Bell Cup in recent years with both Hale and Sale winning the coveted trophy and they are both in early action in the preliminary round.

Sale, winners in 2010, are at home to Bury and Hale face a tough tie at Denton.

Ringway also have tough call as they visit Reddish Vale Davyhulme Park are also looking to battle through to the last 64 as they host Antrobus.

Through to round one with a byeDunham Forest who have a tricky tie at Darwen.
