STAMFORD Park Junior School has been crowned ‘School of the Year’ at this year’s Trafford Schools Sports Awards.
The Hale school faced fierce competition in a year where many schools have been focusing heavily on providing pupils with increased sporting opportunities, inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Stamford Park was honoured for the staff’s hard work in embedding the values of these Games into their curriculum and for working towards ensuring a lasting sporting legacy.
During the course of the year, pupils have participated in more than 20 different sports from football to wheelchair hockey.
Pupils have won many team and individual trophies and even staged their own Olympic-style opening ceremony at the beginning of National Sports Week. Elizabeth Rickels, PE manager at Stamford Park, was also a runner-up in the award for School Sports Champion.
She said: “It is a great honour for our school to be recognised for our dedication to providing pupils with exciting sporting opportunities with a view to embedding lifelong healthy values.
"It’s been a fabulous sporting year for our school and our pupils have embraced these opportunities with fervour.”
