Urmston Hockey Club

THE men’s first team faced up against newly relegated side Kingston Upon Hull at the weekend.

Although Hull’s first results had been below average, Urmston were still not sure what to make of them having been relegated from the division above.

It was soon clear that Hull were a very large and physical side who carried out the basics well but Urmston managed to dominate from the off and it wasn’t long before Mike Tonge managed to get on the end of a tap in on the back post from some very impressive passing in mid-field.

Andy Power managed soon after to convert a drag flick from a penalty corner to put Urmston comfortably in front.

Field goals from Brad Bates and Stefan Wasilewski saw Urmston go into the half time break 4-0 up. The second half brought more of the same domination from Urmston and it was Ollie Cooper who scored the fifth.

Hull managed to pull 1 goal back from a penalty corner but it was Urmston who finished the scoring with a second from Power and a superb individual finish for Cooper’s second, ending the match 7-1. John Crossley was the obvious man of the match choice due to having an all round superb game.
