Redpath – gone or not?

sale Sharks played down a report circulating on Monday evening that Bryan Redpath had left the club’s employ.

The report was quickly amended by two national broadcasters and it is understood that, in view of the club’s disappointing onfield fortunes, Redpath will be offered the opportunity to stay at the club as a member of the coaching staff, but not director of rugby. A further statement is expected on Wednesday.

Former Sale FC player coach John Mitchell has been in the UK as a guest of Sale Sharks, and has watched the club’s games against Cardiff Blues, Montpellier and Worcester Warriors. Mitchell flew back to South Africa on Tuesday and it is understood that once ‘contractual issues’ can be resolved, he will return to his old club on a short-term basis. Mitchell first left Sale in 1998 to assist with coaching England, since when he has coached New Zealand, Western Force and the Golden Lions.
