Trafford 0 Burscough 0

TRAFFORD were denied the three points on Tuesday night by a mixture of bad luck and brilliant goalkeeping by Burscough’s Tim Horn.

Trafford pushed forward from the start and in the 12th minute Martyn Andrews stinging left footed drive was held by Horn.

Nia Bayunu then sliced wide from 15 yards and Kamahl Whight shot into the side-netting as the home side dominated.

Trafford’s speedy wide men, Whight and Shelton Payne, were seeing plenty of the ball but were well shackled by visiting full backs Dylan Adams and Phil Quirk.

In the 36th minute Garry Vaughan’s side should have taken the lead when Michael Oates turned beautifully just inside the area and shot against the post, Ally Brown firing the rebound wide from just eight yards.

A Kamahl Whight thunderbolt was then deflected wide as half time approached and the half finished with Nia Bayunu seeing a header cleared off the line and Michael Oates nodding a free kick onto the roof of the net.

Burscough were on top in the opening stages of the second period and in the 51st minute Liam Caddick broke clear in the inside left channel but shot over.

The visitors impressive left winger Louis Mayers then struck a hard low drive that was held at the foot of the post by Tom Read and play switched to the other end where Michael Oates rounded off a superb move with a shot from 15 yards that was saved at full length by Horn.

In the 71st minute Tom Read brilliantly tipped a curling free kick by Mayers over the crossbar and Trafford countered once more with Shelton Payne firing into the side-netting and Kamahl Whight being desperately unlucky with a cracking drive from 25 yards that cannoned back into play off the post.

Trafford were now throwing everything forward in an attempt to clinch the points but Horn was in unbeatable form and in the closing minutes produced another magnificent save when he tipped a Michael Oates shot from just inside the penalty area over the crossbar.

Trafford now turn their attentions to the FA Trophy and a Second Round Tie against Evo Stik Premier League high flyers Hednesford Town on Saturday at Shawe View, kick off 3 p.m.

Then on Tuesday night Trafford make the journey over the Pennines for a league fixture against fourth placed Farsley FC, kick off 7-45 p.m.
