STRETFORD and Urmston MP Kate Green took part in Parliament Week (13th – 19th November) with a range of activities to engage young people from across Trafford in politics.

Parliament Week is an annual festival that engages people from across the UK with parliament.

During Parliament Week Kate launched a range of opportunities for young people across her constituency to engage in politics, learn a bit more about democracy and see how they can get involved.

This included visiting Flixton Girls School to encourage Year 11 and sixth form students who were eligible, to register to vote.

Although young people can’t vote until they’re 18, they can sign up to be on the electoral register from the age of 16.

Ms Green said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed chatting with young people of all ages from across Stretford and Urmston for Parliament Week. They’ve asked me so many great questions about all aspects of my job and taken a real interest in how politics works.

“Of course, getting young people engaged in politics doesn’t just stop when Parliament Week ends. If you are a school or young people’s group who would like me to come and chat to students, or if you’d like to come and visit me in Parliament then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me on kate.green.mp@parliament.uk or ring my office on 0161 749 9120.”

She is writing out to every secondary school in her constituency to let them know the different ways which young people can get involved in politics, from visiting her in Westminster to hosting a digital surgery with their MP.

She is also hoping to get younger students engaged in politics too and, in recent weeks, she has hosted children from Moss Park and St Matthew’s Primary Schools in Westminster and visited Seymour Park school.

She went to have a chat about her job as an MP with Flixton Rainbows and answered questions from 1st Partington Guides on video as she was in parliament and unable to address their meeting in person.
