AFTER her own struggle funding childcare, a mother in Urmston has set up her own nursery to support families in the community.

26-year-old Hannah Donnelly opened The Little people on October 9 with the aim to provide cheaper childcare to give families the chance to be able to work, put their child in full-time care and be able to afford all the nice things in between.

She said: "Before my son went to school in September it felt like I worked just to pay for his nursery fees. He has a chromosome deficiency which makes him struggle to walk - he has good days and bad days but with paying for fees and missing work to attend hospital appointments it was difficult. I was aware of other families struggling too so when the opportunity came up to start a nursery I took it."

Hannah opened the nursery at the Second Davyhulme Scout Hut on Bowfell Road, Urmston.

The hut used to be the home to Little Diamonds Pre-School Playgroup and when it moved out of the building in July this year, it was suggested to Hannah to start a new one - she agreed and when her son, 4-year-old Alfie started school in September found it the perfect time to begin the venture.

Running the nursery at this venue means that there is no rent on the property - she simply pays a monthly donation to the charity meaning that the fees can stay low.

A full day at the nursery costs £25. It provides children with breakfast and a hot dinner but asks that they each bring a packed lunch.

The nursery offers key features to help with the children's learning and development through the key areas, personal, social and emotional. They have a corner for babies, role play, kitchen, construction, creative and stories and outside there is a mud kitchen, sand pit, plants, bean bags and a bike bay - all kitted out with brand new equipment.

Hannah has a foundation degree in early years (level 5) and has worked in nurseries and children's development all her life. She works alongside Emma McGovern who has a degree in BA Honours in early years practice (level 6). And in the next few months will be welcoming more experienced staff.
