THE Urmston community came together for the first ever Pride of Urmston awards.
Around 100 people turned up to Showcase Studios in Railway Road to celebrate the good work that has been done in the town.
The community have been voting since January for the people in Urmston they believe should be recognised for their hard work.
Emma Hitchman, owner of Showcase Studios and organiser of the event said: “We have only recently opened the studios and wanted to do something to become a part of the community. It was a chance to celebrate all the amazing things people do in Urmston.”
“It was a really lovely and a relaxed night and we hope that we can make it an annual event.”
As well as celebrating the hard work of the town they also enjoyed their local talent with many singers performing on the night.
Wayne Deviln received the highest amount of votes at the awards for his many years of charity work in Urmston. In the past 10 years of fundraising, Wayne has raised an amazing quarter of a million pounds for various charities.
He will be holding a charity concert on November 25, at the John Alker Club for the Manchester based charity, Once Upon A Smile. A charity which provides emotional and practical support to bereaved families. The concert will be filmed by Sky 212 and shown on December 7.
The other winners at the awards were: Michelle McGrath, The Riff Raff Society, the Molden family, Julie and Ian Slamon, Colin Williams, Kevin Murphy, Joanne Harding, Wibbersley and Thorne Society and 11-year-old Freya Sharpen.
