JON Green, known to his friends as Jot, will transform a negative event into something positive when he launches his new EP Time to Make a Move on April 14, under his stage name, Rum Thief.

The former Wellacre school pupil, and chef, will perform self-written Alt Garage Rock/Indie songs backed by Kieran Whitehouse, Lead guitar, Gary Long, Bass and Chris Hobs, Drums.

The launch will be in memory of the 32-year-old’s girlfriend, Priya Lloyd, who took her own life a year ago, aged just 34.

Proceeds from both a pre-release event which raised £500 and the EP will go to The Sanctuary – Self Help, a user-led mental health charity.

Jon, from Urmston, said: “I was aware Priya had a history of mental health problems but no longer saw a doctor or took medication.

“Neither of us knew about the Sanctuary. That’s why I feel it is important to raise awareness of the place."

Jon prefers not say how she took her life but it was he who found her in their bed after returning to their flat when she had declined an invitation to have tea with his mum.

“I believe what she did came out of the blue, triggered by psychosis.

“It pretty much destroyed my life. That’s why this EP feels like an achievement. It’s a subtle tribute to her.

“She was proud and supportive of my music so it feels like I’m carrying on for her as well as me. That’s why I used the semi colon on the cover.

“If more people knew there was somewhere like the Sanctuary when at breaking point then I’m happy I’ve done what I wanted to do.”

Time to Make a Move is available for digital release from 14 April via iTunes. Physical copies are available from facebook.com/rumthief. Price £4.
