A FLIXTON resident who celebrates her 105th birthday on Wednesday attributes her long life to a drop of brandy every day.
Former haberdasher Lily Wood marked her special day with a party at Winster House flats, where she has lived for more than 55 years.
After growing up in Salford, Lily spent her early working years in a glove making factory and a clerical job in the fire service during the war.
Her later life was spent running her own wool and haberdashery shop.
The great great grandmother survived her husband, Arthur, who died 19 years ago aged 90.
She has one daughter Margaret Banbury, aged 73, and a grandson, Stephen, aged 54, daughter in law, Karen, 50, plus great grandchildren Kirsty, aged 30, and Daniel, aged 26, and great great grandchildren Amelia Rose, three, and Lilly Mae, 10 weeks-old.
Lily played golf into her 80s as a member of the Davyhulme Golf Club.
She was a keen knitter until her eyesight deteriorated, but now enjoys spending time in the company of friends at Winster House.
She is looking forward to receiving a card from the Queen on her special day.
Margaret said of her mother: "She is a very sociable person, she likes to be in company.
"She and my dad used to go out a lot, especially to the golf club.
"Even now when they have a party she always joins in and she is looking forward to her party.
"She says the secret to her long life is having a drop of brandy every day and that she has never smoked."
