LAST week we revealed that a 111-year-old Co-Op building in Flixton was set to be transformed into a family cafe - and here is it in its original state.

Planning chiefs gave the green light to an application to turn a former electrical repair store in Brook Road into a family cafe and play area.

The plans divided councillors and the public, with some saying the "beautiful, fine" building was in need of restoration and a return to its former glory whilst others said it would cause further congestion and parking issues.

The news of the conversion has sparked interest in the history of the building, harping back to the days before it exchanged hands over the years.

Reader David Smith sent this photo of the building in its original state.

Messenger Newspapers:

Work has already begun on the restoration of the building, with many changes made to the interior and facade since it was pictured below as its most recent use as an electrical repair store (Google Maps).
