AN URMSTON school had a very special reason to celebrate World Book Day.

The Orchards had been awarded runners up in the World Book Day Display competition and IT therefore received a signed picture and book from Oliver Jeffers, author of ‘A Child of Books’.

The Irlam Road school also received a special visit from Vicky Beer, regional schools commissioner, who had a tour of the school and met pupils and staff.

The Orchards is a special needs free school which opened last September with the support of the Dunham Trust.

Emily Haddock, head of school, said "I am extremely proud as all of our lessons are really creative so it is great to have won this award as it recognises all the hard work and dedication of our staff."
