SYNCHRONISED skater Megan Wright says friendship is the secret to her team's success on the ice.

Megan has captained the Altair team which trains at Altrincham Ice Rink and came second in the British Synchronised Skating Championships.

Megan, 16, from Urmston, who is taking her GCSEs at Loreto Grammar School, and would ultimately like to work as an interpreter for an international organisation, said: “We have developed an almost telepathic understanding of one another and are just such great friends on and off the ice. That's why we work so well together.”

They practise twice a week, both on a Friday morning starting at 6am and then off the ice at Altrincham Boys Grammar School on a Sunday, but Megan added: “We don't have any boys in our team, but they could join if they thought they were good enough.”

Her ambition is simple: “We want to win next year and to do that we'll just have to work even harder.”

Altrincham-based junior team Whizz Kids and adult outfit Bladerunners were crowned British champions.
