CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save Flixton's green belt from development will be out in force at the weekend.

The Save Flixton Green belt group has organised a demonstration at Flixton Fields. All supporters of the campaign are welcome.

The events is being held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 7.

The demonstration has been organised by Save Flixton Green Belt member Michelle McGrath, who said: "We are expecting hundreds to be there.

"This is a community event - bring along your banners, placards, kids and dogs.

"This is everyone's chance to show how strongly they feel about plans to build on the green belt."

The recently formed Save Flixton Green Belt is aiming to block town hall proposals to build houses on swathes of land in Flixton as part of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF).

The land earmarked to be developed at Flixton Station includes the station and parts of William Wroe golf course.

Grade II-listed Flixton House and the playing fields, which are also in the green belt, will be declassified, but council leader Sean Anstee claims both will be ‘protected’.
