A MYSTERY bang shortly before midnight has left Urmston residents scratching their heads (and no, it isn’t those pesky fireworks).

Residents reported hearing a loud bang in both the Flixton and Urmston areas on Thursday November 3 at around 11.45pm.

With Bonfire night just around the corner, some speculated that it could have been from a firework – but those who heard the noise swear it was impossible, due to how loud it was.

There was some suggestion that the noise could have been from the nearby Carrington Power Station, which is now up and running.

Earlier this year, residents complained of a loud noise emanating from the Carrington area, which was found to be steam being released during the station’s commissioning stages.

However, when the Messenger contacted the plant, site manager Ciaran McManus confirmed that there were no such issues last night.

Workers reported no abnormalities during the plant walk downs but had noted the usual fireworks in the area.
