FIFTY students from Flixton Girls’ School and five members of staff embarked on a coach trip crossing to Cologne for a six day adventure.

The group stayed in Cologne and had the opportunity to tour the area.

This included climbing to the top of the Cathedral bell tower, Old Town at night exertion, Aqualand Water Park, Cochem Castle and town, Bonn Museum of Contemporary German history, Rüdesheim – Siegfrieds Musik Kabinett Museum and Cable Car to the Niederwald Denkmal memorial with time in the town, Boppard treasure hunt and Phantasialand Theme Park.

This trip co-incided with the launch of German into the Key Stage 3 modern foreign languages curriculum at FGS and allowed students to experience the German language and culture in real life situations.

Students were actively encouraged to use the language acquired during their first year of study, as well as expanding their vocabulary and enhancing their cultural knowledge.

This will now be an annual opportunity for all German students and this enrichment trip will be offered to Key Stage 4 this academic year.
