A CONFERENCE aimed at helping young people and schools understand the significant careers options in the digital sector takes place next month in Manchester.

DigiCon, which was organised by students at Urmston Grammar School in collaboration with digital marketing consultancy PushON, will take place on Wednesday, October 19 at the school on Newton Road, Manchester.

The event will feature top speakers from Manchester’s leading digital companies who will provide insights to make students aware of the prospects the expanding industry in the UK can offer them.

Topics like app design, digital marketing, social media management, graphic design and business start-up will be covered.

Simon Wharton, managing director at PushON, said: “The digital sector is growing at an almost incomprehensible rate. In the North West, there are so many great jobs to be had across so many disciplines yet we are not getting enough young people into this enormously rewarding career path.

“DigiCon aims to give young people and schools a better understanding of what the digital sector can offer them. We want to make them aware of the exciting and varied careers available within the digital industry and help them make informed decisions about their future careers.”

Chairman of DigiCon Jack Ryan added: “This is a conference organised by students, for students and will open their eyes to the digital sector and what it can offer them.

“Manchester in particular is a center for digital innovation and opportunities exist on the doorsteps of these students. We look forward to welcoming them and everyone to DigiCon this year.”

Confirmed speakers include founder and managing director of award winning PR Agency One James Crawford, chair and founder of the Tangerine Group Sandy Lindsay MBE, founder of start-up Dream Agility, Elizabeth Clarke and futurologist Tom Cheesewright.
