A FRUSTRATED resident claims wooded land across the street from her home has become a ‘dogs’ toilet’ after being ‘abandoned’ by the council.

Janet Horan, who lives on Wellacre Avenue, in Urmston, said she has been trying in vain to get the ‘dangerously high, enormous and totally out of character trees’ cut back opposite her home.

She said she has contacted Amey and Trafford Council about the issue but that action is yet to be taken.

According to Janet, the area has become ‘dark, dirty and disgusting’.

Janet said: “I have been phoning the council for the past two years. They gave me a job number but that means absolutely nothing. I believe the council have just totally abandoned this area, the grass has not been cut for over a year and people use it as a dogs’ toilet. But it is the trees that are the real hazard to the general public, the highway, our driveways and our properties. If a huge branch or God forbid anything worse were to fall, I cannot begin to think what the consequences would be.”

The One Trafford partnership said it was not responsible for the maintenance of trees.

A spokesperson for OneTrafford said: “The area of land at Wellacre Ave is classed as rural open space which means that it has a different maintenance programme than highway verges and, as a result, is only cut once or twice a year in line with specifications.

"If any residents would like the land classification to be reviewed, we’d ask them to get in touch with us by calling 03330 035865 or via the Trafford Council website.”
