IDRIS Elba, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hiddleston – and Wayne Devlin?

Trafford singer Wayne Devlin, of Urmston, has been thrust into the media spotlight after a news outlet rumoured he was set to replace Daniel Craig as the new James Bond.

Headline and Global News (HNGN.com) suggested that director Sam Mendes could choose the rat pack and Irish country singer as the new 007, steering away from Hollywood favourites, including Tom Hardy and Damian Lewis.

According a source of Bond production company EON, longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli had been spotted meeting with 39-year-old Devlin twice in recent weeks.

Although Devlin is a known in the area for his singing, he has had a handful of small parts in the TV and film industry.

This hasn’t put producers off as, according to the site’s source, the "method actor from Manchester has been described as not too dissimilar to the original Bond, Sean Connery, which they really like."

Although a Trafford Bond is a concept we like the sound of, it looks like the Devlin Bond rumour is just that – a rumour.

Devlin denied any involvement with the movie and said it was a case of elaborate Chinese whispers.

"One person in the USA tweeted that I should get an audition and from that one tweet the gossip circles have exaggerated it and suddenly I'm apparently in the running," he said. "I can confirm I've not met or spoken to anyone involved. It's all very silly."
