STUDENTS in Trafford got off to a flying start this month taking part in skills festivals organised by the Trafford School Sports Partnership.

Throughout the four events across the borough more than 800 young people from year 1 and 2 across 18 schools’ have taken part in a variety of different activities.

The sessions are designed to develop their physical literacy, working on their balance, agility and co-ordination whilst learning important values such as teamwork, determination and respect.

The events were delivered with the support of sports leaders from both Flixton Girls' School and Altrincham Girls' Grammar School.

Kay Statham, school games organiser, said: "It is fantastic to see so many young people taking part in physical activity at such a young age, giving them these kind of opportunities helps to develop their confidence and hopefully puts them on the right road for a healthy active lifestyle."
