AS a nation of foodie lovers, Come Dine with Me had us hooked – and an Urmston couple will be teasing our tastebuds in Channel 4’s latest daytime serving Too Many Cooks.

In this brand new competitive cooking series, three amateur foodie couples line up to take the heat off overwhelmed party planners.

Across the week amateur cooking couples compete to cater for five different parties, from birthday bashes and hectic housewarmings to engagement dinners and bon voyage parties.

Urmston husband and wife duo John and Carolyn Phillips were contacted by the show after researchers for True North Productions found the website for a supper club the couple had previously run, South Manchester Suppers.

John said: “While we have previously catered for events for friends and family this was a whole new experience for us and dealing with budgeting, writing up detailed menus for every dish and shopping for ingredients around our busy work lives was particularly stressful.

“It didn’t help that we had TV cameras constantly in our faces but the crew from True North Productions were fantastic and soon put us at ease.”

The series debuted on April 4 and John and Carolyn’s episode is scheduled for this week (April 18-22) – so stay tuned.

“It really was a rollercoaster of emotions; from stress to elation, self-doubt to pride but ultimately a thoroughly enjoyable experience and something we will both look back on very fondly,” said John.

“We’ve also made four very good friends in the other two couples and have recently had them over for dinner; it was nice that we could all get together and enjoy some nice food and wine without having to worry about how we would be scored.”

Also due to take a starring role in Too Many Cooks is Matthew Henderson, the club secretary at the Partington Working Men's club. The episode is due to be shown on Thursday and it helped to celebrate the recent refurbishment to the club's games room

Too Many Cooks airs weekdays at 5.30pm on Channel 4.
