URMSTON was on lockdown last night as armed police swooped in and arrested two men for firearms offences.

At around 6pm on Thursday April 14, police were called to Crofts Bank Road following reports that two men had been seen carrying guns near to Urmston police station.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene and the busy Crofts Bank Road was closed in both directions between Winchester Road and Sumner Way for more than an hour.

A 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of committing offences under section 16(a) of the firearms act and remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Steve Warriner from GMP’s Trafford Division said, “I would like to reassure the community that no threat was made or directed towards a specific person and there should be no cause for concern amongst local residents”.
