A THERAPY centre set up to improve the quality of life of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) has been given a much-needed cash injection.

Trafford Park-based MS Therapy Centre has received a £5,000 donation from PerfectHome. to buy oxygen to support its patients.

The money will be used to buy five months’ worth of oxygen for use in their dedicated oxygen chambers, which provides specialised treatment to more than 300 patients from across the North West.

While the treatment cannot cure the condition, which affects the central nervous system, it can stabilise it and reduce symptoms such as fatigue, bowel and bladder problems and neuropathic pain.

The centre, which opened in 2004, is run almost entirely by volunteers. Other treatments offered include physiotherapy, massage therapy, electromagnetic therapy along with Pilates and yoga classes.

Patients also benefit from meeting other people with the same condition and being able to discuss their treatments.

Rebecca Allen, from the MS Therapy Centre (NW), said: “This donation will enable us to offer the oxygen treatment to even more people from across the North West.

“We do not receive any statutory funding and therefore rely on donations to keep the doors open, so this will be a massive help.

“We can’t thank PerfectHome enough for their support and for raising awareness of the benefits of oxygen therapy.”

The boost from household goods retailer PerfectHome is part of their newly launched Community Causes scheme.

Alaric Smith, Finance Director at PerfectHome, said: “We are delighted that the donation will be used to literally help breathe life into so many more people across the North West thanks to the oxygen therapy chambers.

“Facilities like this are so important and make a huge difference to the quality of life for hundreds of patients.”
