Flixton Cricket Club members in race to raise funds

A GROUP of 24 cricketers from Flixton Cricket Club will be attempting to race to the summit of Mount Snowdon and back down again, in the hope of raising much-needed funds for the club.

The race will take place on March 27 and will see the three teams of eight players competing against each other.

Richard Hughes, vice-chairman of the junior section of the club said: "Most of us are feeling fairly confident about the race - although we don’t know if there’ll be snow on the ground when we get up there. A few of them are a bit apprehensive but there’s also a few that are out to prove a point to some of the more experienced players!’ Those taking part are hoping that the race will raise as much as £5,000 for the club, which is self-sufficient and relies entirely on raising its own money.

The club is a big supporter of young cricket players with a total of 127 junior cricketers - from the under-9s up to the under-17s and the club is hoping that events like this will be a great way of attracting sponsors for some of the junior sections.
