An elderly Urmston man was robbed by a conman in his home

AN elderly Urmston man had his wallet stolen after a stranger conned his way into his home.

The 88-year-old man let in the conman, who claimed he had been sent to check the house following a nearby burglary.

The theft took place on Thursday, January 28th at 3.30pm.

Police Constable Alfred Gumbs has issued a warned for people not to let strangers into their homes unless they had an appointment and were carrying identification.

He said: “People who prey on pensioners like this are cowardly liars, but they can be quite plausible, so I would warn elderly people especially not to let anyone into their home unless it has been pre-arranged.

“If you ever have any doubts as to whether a caller is genuine, or you don't feel comfortable with the situation, my advice is simple - don't ever let them in."

Constable Gumbs reminded people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.

The intruder is described as white, aged 35, around 5ft 7ins tall, of stocky build. He was clean-shaven and had a round face. He was wearing a green and red cardigan and dark jeans.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 0950 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
