Housing development agreed on site of Timperley clubhouse

A VANDAL-plagued empty clubhouse in Timperley is to be demolished to make way for a housing development.

Planning bosses have given the thumbs-up to a scheme to knock down the former Labour club, on Grange Road, and build 12 flats and 12 houses on the site, which includes a bowling green.

Planning committee member and Timperley Village ward councillor Tony Fishwick said he was delighted with the plans.

There have been arson attacks on the building, as well as problems with vandalism, littering and anti-social behaviour.

Cllr Fishwick said: “There have been a lot of problems since the Labour Club closed, we have had fires there.

“This is a very good application and I welcome it.

“I am sure the residents will see a nice piece of land being brought back into use.”

The planning committee unanimously approved the application, which will provide affordable accommodation.
