ALTRINCHAM Swimming Club is set to celebrate a quarter of a century of producing top class swimmers with a charity 25 hour Swimathon this weekend.

The club, which is based at Altrincham Leisure Centre, was first formed in 1992, has a notable track record of producing some of country's best swimmers.

Coach, Chris Tarry said: "To celebrate our 25th anniversary, Audrey Grundy one of our founder members, will begin our 25hour Swimathon relay.

"Swimmers, coaches and anybody who has had an involvement with Altrincham Swimming Club over the 25 year history are invited to take part in the relay.

"Some ex-swimmers have already signed up, but we are calling out any other ex-members to join us. Each swimmer has the choice whether they want to swim for 30 or 60minutes and they can choose a time of their choice. Each time slot begins on the hour."

The event will begin on July 1 at 5pm and finish on July 2 at 6pm.

Head coach Chris Tarry said: "I have been involved with Altrincham Swimming Club for 17 years after joining as an 8 year old and I swam in many internal and external competitions for the team.

"We have some outstanding swimmers throughout the club, right down to the development squads, which are under the expert leadership of assistant head coach Kate Offord. We are also grateful to all the volunteers and helpers that have got our club to where we are today.

"We are always looking to develop talented swimmers, so please check out our website if you are interested in learning more about becoming a competitive swimmer."

The Swimathon will raise funds and awareness for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), and followed the death of club member and promising national and international swimmer 16 year old Chloe Waddell in 2013, from an undiagnosed heart condition.
