UK blind land speed record holder, Trafford’s Mike Newman, has signed up to Henshaws’ unique fundraising event, the European Twin City Challenge.

In partnership with Salford City Council, Sale resident Mike will be joined by the UK’s youngest rally driver, Cameron Davies.

Old Trafford-based Henshaws is inviting 50 teams of two people to take part in the week-long event, travelling to three out of four of Salford’s twinned cities, Saint Ouen and Clermont Ferrand in France and Lunen in Germany.

Mike Newman said: “I have been a supporter of Henshaws for a number of years now and I always love getting involved, whether it’s speaking at the Henshaws annual Carol Concert or visiting the centre with my companion Baxter.

“When they told me about this event, I thought it was perfect for me as I have dedicated my life to motor racing. I know it’s not a race, but I can’t wait to see what challenges they set.”

Departing on May 4 next year, the teams will set off on a journey down to the Port of Dover completing tasks set by the fundraising team at Henshaws.

After crossing the channel and arriving at each destination, teams will be greeted by the local mayor who will hand out the challenges. They will vary from a treasure hunt to a simplified version of the Krypton Factor.Recruitment has already begun for the challenge - to sign up or find out more contact glen.lockett@henshaws.org.uk or call 0161 872 1234.
